The Windy Day Kite
📖 4 minutes · A story by Yaniv Hamudot
Whoosh! The wind was dancing all over Fruitville.
"Perfect kite weather!" said Little Cherry. She had made a brand-new kite, red as a cherry, with a long ribbon tail.
Up went the kite! Up, up, up — over the rooftops, over the bakery, waving hello to the clouds.
"It's flying! It's really flying!" cheered Little Cherry.
Then the wind did a twirl. The kite did a twirl. And — fwip! — the kite landed right in the top of the tallest apple tree, and stayed there.
"Oh no," said Little Cherry quietly. "My kite."
Banana-Man looked up. The tree was very tall. The kite was very high. Little Cherry's eyes were very shiny.
"We'll get it down together," Banana-Man said. "Teamwork time!"
Pip fetched the ladder and held it steady with all his might. "Steady!" he called. "Super steady!"
Baby Melon stood below with a soft blanket. "If the kite falls, I'll catch it gently!"
Banana-Man climbed carefully. One step. Two steps. Three. The branches swayed — sway, sway — but he held on tight and climbed like a slow, brave cat.
Almost there… almost…
Just then, Mrs. Robin landed on the branch. "That string is tangled on my twig," she chirped. With her little beak — tug, tug, tug — she untangled the string, knot by knot.
"Got it!" called Banana-Man, holding the kite high.
Everyone cheered — and nobody cheered louder than Little Cherry.
Back on the ground, Banana-Man handed her the kite. "Your kite missed you," he said.
Little Cherry hugged it. Then she held out the string. "Everybody hold on with me this time!"
So they all held the string together — Banana-Man, Little Cherry, Pip, and Baby Melon — and the red kite danced in the wind, steady and safe and happy.
"Teamwork," said Banana-Man, "makes everything fly better."
The End. 🪁
